Grocery Clerk Jobs at Real Canadian Superstore: Departments, Pay and Night Shifts

Enlace Patrocinado

Grocery stores never really close. While shoppers sleep, night crews unload trucks, fill shelves and prepare the bakery and produce sections for the morning.

That constant activity is why Real Canadian Superstore jobs and other Loblaw banners appear on job boards all year.

Below you will find the main departments, what grocery clerk postings pay in 2026, the physical demands and how to choose between day and night shifts.

One company, many store names

Loblaw Companies Limited runs several grocery banners in Canada, including Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, No Frills and Zehrs, as well as Shoppers Drug Mart. Store jobs at corporate locations are posted on the Loblaw careers site, while franchised banners such as many No Frills stores may hire through their owner. Job titles are usually written with the department and the shift, for example «Produce Clerk Part Time Day» or «SAP Operations Clerk Part Time Night», which makes it easy to know what you are applying for.

Before you apply

✔ Many clerk roles need no previous experience.

✔ Postings ask you to move up to 50 lbs and stay on your feet the whole shift.

✔ The job title tells you the department and whether it is day or night.

✔ Some postings say AI tools may be used to screen applications.

The departments explained

A large grocery store works like several small shops. Knowing what each one does helps you choose the right posting.

  • Grocery clerk: stocks dry goods such as cereal, canned food and snacks, faces shelves so products look full and helps customers find items.
  • Produce clerk: keeps fruit and vegetables fresh and well displayed, removes damaged items and sets up promotions. Postings in British Columbia say no previous experience is required.
  • HMR clerk: works in home meal replacement, the ready-to-eat section with salads, hot food and prepared meals. Food handling rules are part of the job.
  • Bakery, deli and meat: prepare, slice, package and label products. Some of these roles need extra training and may pay more.
  • Liquor clerk: in stores with a liquor section, stocks shelves, manages product sales and must follow age-verification rules.
  • SAP operations clerk: handles receiving and inventory on the store’s computer system, often on night shifts.
  • Cashier and customer service: handles checkout, returns and questions at the front of the store.

Real pay from 2026 postings

These figures come from Real Canadian Superstore postings on Job Bank, Indeed and CareerBeacon. Loblaw postings note that experience, knowledge and the region can affect the final rate.

Role Location Pay
Produce clerk, part time day Campbell River, Penticton and Cranbrook, BC $18.25–$18.45/hr
HMR clerk, part time day Toronto, ON $17.60–$18.45/hr
Supermarket clerk, full time night Whitehorse, YT $18.51–$20.87/hr
SAP operations clerk, part time night Edmonton, AB $21.96/hr
Grocery clerk, part time day Lloydminster, AB $25.50/hr

One detail shows how wages move over time: the same Whitehorse night clerk job was posted in 2024 at $17.59 per hour and in January 2026 at $18.51 to $20.87. In Ontario, the minimum wage rose to $17.95 on October 1, 2026, so any rate below that in older Toronto postings no longer applies.

Day shift or night shift?

Day shifts put you in contact with customers all the time. You answer questions, help people find products, run promotions and keep the department tidy while the store is busy. They suit people who enjoy talking and want a regular sleep schedule.

Night shifts are about volume. The Whitehorse posting describes unpacking products, counting and sorting items, recording incoming stock, filling shelves and using an electric pallet jack. You work in air-conditioned and refrigerated areas, with fewer customers and a fast pace. Night roles often pay at the higher end of the range and suit people who prefer physical, focused work. Some night postings ask for a criminal record check.

Physical demands you should expect

Loblaw clerk postings are direct about the body side of the job: you must be able to move up to 50 lbs, depending on the department, and stay in constant motion for the whole shift. Cold rooms, freezers and long periods of bending and reaching are normal. Good work boots or non-slip shoes, layered clothing for cold areas and learning safe lifting from the first day will protect your back over time.

Benefits and extras

Corporate store postings mention comprehensive training, flexibility and a benefits package, and Job Bank postings for Superstore list health and financial benefits. Some Loblaw postings also advertise a share purchase plan with a company match and a pension plan with employer contributions. Eligibility for these extras depends on your role, union agreement and hours, since many store employees are unionized and pay scales are set by collective agreements. Ask about the agreement that applies to your store during the interview.

How to apply

Go to the Loblaw careers site and search by city, banner or job title. Read the shift line carefully, because «part time day» and «part time night» are separate postings with different schedules. Your profile should show your real availability, any experience with stocking, food handling or customer service, and whether you can work weekends and evenings. Postings say you must be available for the shifts listed, so do not apply to a schedule you cannot keep.

If you are referred by someone who already works at Loblaw, follow the company’s referral process: some postings ask referred applicants to be submitted first through the internal system by the current colleague.

Growing in grocery retail

Grocery stores promote from within all the time. A clerk who learns more than one department can become a department lead, then a department manager. Specialized areas like meat, bakery or pharmacy support can lead to higher-paid skilled roles, and night crew experience is valued for receiving and inventory positions. Showing up on time, learning the inventory system and keeping your department clean are the habits managers look for when they choose who moves up.
